How to Apply for an ESL Teaching Job in China?

By Teach-English-in-China

To land an ESL job in China, here are general steps to follow:

  1. Check if you meet the minimum requirements set by the Chinese government (see Requirements on the left)
  2. Search for Chinese ESL employers according to your own preference (location, length of term, etc)
  3. Send your application (including resume, diploma, professional certificate if requested)
  4. Prepare for interview (translation might be needed)
  5. After you're offered a job in China, make necessary paper work (e.g. contract). Apply for Z visa if your contract is more than 6 months or F visa if less than 6 months
  6. Once you arrive at your employer's city, apply for Foreign Expert Certificate

However, unlike landing a job in your own country, there are some special difficulties in the above process:

  1. There is a huge distance between you and your potential employer (not just the 20,000-kilometer physical distance, but also the ~12-hour time difference, language difference, culture difference, etc)
  2. It is difficult to establish trust, especially for the purpose of making a legal contract

You might be able to find hiring information and make initial contact yourself, but few people eventually land a ESL job in China without professional help, such as those provided by AutoFluency. We wish you all the best in your own effort, but if you need help, we're here to assist you (see Get Help).
